Ulrike Gut, Anglistik Uni Augsburg Titel: The compilation of the ICE Nigeria Abstract: The ICE Nigeria, a corpus of spoken and written Nigerian English is currently being compiled at the University of Augsburg . This talk will give a brief introduction to the study of English varieties world-wide in general and Nigerian English in particular and to the ICE (International Corpus of English) project. The corpus design, data format and annotation of the ICE Nigeria will be presented. In addition, a demo of the tool Pacx, a platform for annotated corpora in XML which is being developed for the compilation of the ICE Nigeria, will be given. A few examples of corpus-based findings on relative clauses and progressives in Nigerian will round up the talk.
