Empty Pause

Symbol <P>

Empty pauses can be defined as temporary, unfilled gaps in speech. They can be overlayed by a speaker interference (see 3.2.25), but cannot overlay actively. Just as with the filled pause labels punctuation marks always come first. Empty pauses at the beginning or at the end of a turn are not transcribed.
