The conference site at Kloster Seeon is about 20 mins. by road from the nearest railway station at Bad Endorf, which in turn is about half-way between Munich and Salzburg.
On Sunday afternoon you will need to travel by rail to Bad Endorf, where there will be a choice of two buses to get you to Kloster Seeon.
First we give the overall steps to follow to get to Kloster Seeon.
This is followed by detailed information on train times, bus times and tickets both for the outward journey on Sunday and for the return journey on Thursday.
Case 1: Staying in Munich before going to conference
To get to Munich city centre:
either
Take airport bus; picks up passengers outside the arrival gates; terminates at Munich Hauptbahnhof (main station). Runs every 20 mins, but last departure is at 20.55. Fare: DM 16
or
Take S-Bahn (suburban train) line S1 or S8
Departs from beneath central concourse of airport.
Single ticket costs DM 14.40. A strip ticket "Streifenkarte" is more economical if you expect to make further journeys in the city. From airport to city costs 8 strips. Most journeys in the city cost 2 strips.
To proceed on to conference site on Sunday afternoon:
Select one of the trains to Bad Endorf from the detailed timetable below that connects with our bus transfers from Bad Endorf to the conference site at Kloster Seeon.
Train departures from Munich Hauptbahnhof will probably be most convenient for you.
Case 2: Travelling direct from airport to conference site
Go to German rail (DB) ticket desk on the central concourse of the airport.
Buy ticket to Bad Endorf
Take S-Bahn (suburban train) line S8 to Munich Ostbahnhof
Change on to train to Bad Endorf. There is usually one train per hour. Final destination of these trains is usually Salzburg or Berchtesgaden. See below for the times of the trains that connect directly with our bus transfer from Bad Endorf to the conference site at Kloster Seeon on Sunday afternoon.
If you arrive at Bad Endorf on a train that does not connect directly with one of our bus services your options are:
Wait for the bus (there are various places near the station where you can get snacks)
Take a taxi (about DM 40)
but IF your flight arrival time means you may not or cannot reach our second bus service out of Bad Endorf and IF you have given us your flight information then our backup service will pick you up at the station.
We will arrange for 2 large-capacity buses to pick up passengers from the following trains into Bad Endorf on Sunday afternoon, but we will have a
backup service operating for those who miss their intended train, or who are arriving later anyway. Please let us know what train you intend to arrive
on so we can distribute bus capacity accordingly (please also let us know if you have alternative travel arrangements, so that you do not require a transfer).

Hints for buying train ticketsTo avoid chaos at Bad Endorf station on the departure day buy the ticket for the return journey on May 4th at the same time as the ticket for the outward journey, if at all possible. Price for single ticket to Bad Endorf (return ticket costs double): DM 20.20 Munich Hauptbahnhof and Ostbahnhof DM 29.00 Munich Airport
Make sure when buying the ticket that the return ticket is valid for May 4th (in German: "Muenchen-Bad Endorf, Hinfahrt am 30.4.2000, Rueckfahrt am 4.5.2000").
As many of you will be travelling in groups, a cheap alternative for Munich to Bad Endorf is the weekend ticket ("Schoenes Wochenende Ticket"):
This costs only DM 35, can be used by up to 5 people, and allows unlimited travel on the German rail network, including all city transportation in
Munich (S-Bahn, U-Bahn, bus and tram) for one day of the weekend, BUT is only valid on local trains.
For getting to Bad Endorf this means you may use Regional Express (RE) trains but may NOT use InterRegio (IR) or InterCity (IC) trains.
If you use this weekend ticket you will of course also need a single ticket for Bad Endorf to Munich on May 4th.

Change at Ostbahnhof for direct connection to Bad Endorf. Journey time from airport (approx.) 30 mins. to Ostbahnhof, 40 mins. to Hauptbahnhof

(Line S1 provides an additional service running every 20 mins. from the airport to the city centre (Hauptbahnhof ), but journey time to Ostbahnhof is much longer than with S8)
Make sure you know whether you have been allocated oral or poster presentation (see mail sent out at the end of February).

20 mins., plus 5 mins. for questions and changeover time. The conference room will be quite full, so avoid small lettering on slides and transparencies.

Poster presentations will be allocated to a morning or afternoon session, but can remain on display for the whole of the day on which they are
presented.
All standard equipment will be available (overhead, computer, slide projector; VCR (VHS); audio)

For those with poster presentations on Monday: The poster boards will be accessible from Sunday afternoon onwards for you to hang up your presentation in advance (precise instructions will be given to you on arrival).
We are planning to form some special interest groups (= opportunity to chin-wag with the like-minded). Since time will be short at the meeting we thought about "Stammtische" during lunch break. A Stammtisch is a "liquid form of round table" (translation copyright P. Hoole, 2000) which takes place periodically, usually in pubs in the evening, but in our case it would be easier over lunch. Current suggestions for topics are:

If you requested to share a double room we will confirm this to you specifically. Otherwise you can assume that a single room has been reserved for you (with arrival day Sunday, and departure day Thursday).
NB: We have no spare rooms available for additional non- presenting participants.
Just as a reminder: The price for active participants is DM 849 in single and DM 710 in double accommodation(i.e DM 150 below the price given in
the Second Announcement).
If you sent the deposit by bank transfer please bring some evidence of the transaction with you to the meeting. The information we get from the
university administration about the source of transfered money is sometimes rather cryptic.
If you requested financial support you should have received an email on March 27th stating the amount of the support. If you have received no message of this kind contact us immediately.
Many of you may be staying a night or two before or after the meeting in Munich. Here are some hotels in the University area we have found useful in the past (prices not quite up to date): Hotels

According to the latest information we have, rooms are available at Kloster Seeon for additional nights. Prices (including breakfast) are DM 155 for
single, DM 120 per person for double.

Tickets cost DM 20. The concert has no connection at all with our meeting (except being in the same room where our oral sessions will take place, so you can check out the acoustics) but we can arrange for tickets to be reserved for participants. Any of you interested should contact us as soon as possible (preferably within a week). We can then arrange transfer for you from the railway station in Bad Endorf on Sunday morning.
For the more adventurous (i.e those more interested in meeting the local population than old faces), on Sunday evening there will also be some kind of
traditional May-time dance event known as the "Rosenheimer Schwung" taking place in the Festsaal.
Tickets cost DM 25.
For full enjoyment you will probably need a) a working knowledge of Bavarian and b) a partner, neither of which we can easily provide you with,
particularly via email.

For Wednesday evening a farewell dinner is planned. We hope to have some music laid on to accompany this event. If any of you feel like bringing an instrument (or vocal folds) and playing or singing something get in touch with Phil Hoole.

We realized rather late that this is one of those maps that are only really any use if you know where you are in the first place.
A couple of hints for interpreting it:
The dashed line from left to right in the middle of the map is the railway line. Before reaching Bad Endorf from Munich it passes through the
medium-sized town of Rosenheim. The town of Prien (a couple of stations beyond Bad Endorf) is actually right on lake Chiemsee (not obvious from
the map).
The solid black lines are roads. The double black lines are motorways (Autobahn).
The blue blob in the middle, as you might have guessed, is the Chiemsee (Bavaria's largest lake). The white blob in the middle of the blue blob is the
island (actually there are two islands) on which Bavaria's King Ludwig II decided in an idle moment to build a copy of the palace of Versailles.
