Hungarian

Back to the Language Demos

Hungarian is one of comparatively few languages directly contrasting velar and palatal stops.
In fact the palatal stops are often reported to be affricated; the IPA illustration actually uses the affricate symbols but states that they are realized as stops in formal style.
The tendency to affrication in the palatals is interesting because the language also has contrasting postalveolar affricates.
