Real-time MRI for speech movements

(with an emphasis on velar movement)
(additional examples on larynx height in section 3)

Speech movements recorded at a frame-rate of approx. 50 frames per second. Pixel resolution 1.4 x 1.4mm
The first three links show the films of three utterances with time-aligned spectrograms to assist navigation in the films.
The following three links show alternative (larger) versions without the spectrogram.

Hint: Expanding the film to full-screen makes it easier to use the slider to look in detail at the movements.

3. Vertical larynx movement

Bottom panel shows spectrogram-style vertical slice through the larynx.
White line shows time-course of automatically detected lower edge of larynx.
S10 shows much more vertical larynx movement for /a:/ in 'Pate' than S13.
But in other cases (/o:/ in 'lohnt') S13 clearly does show substantial larynx movement
3.1 Speaker 10: "wieder 'Pate'"

3.2 Speaker 13: "wieder 'Pate'"

3.3 Speaker 13: "bis er 'lohnt' erklärt"
