The influence of bandwidth limitation on the speaker discriminating potential of nasals and fricatives Speech data is often transmitted over frequency-limited channels such as the telephone. Thus, in this experiment we band-pass filtered the original high quality speech signal to study the influence of bandwidth limitation on the speaker-specific parameters. Therefore, we used speech material from the Verbmobilcorpus, filtered it with high- and low-pass filters from the EMU speech database system and analaysed the measurements statistically in R. While the fricatives showed the expected results, the nasals showed an unexpected increase in the F-ratios.
