Local Information

Conference venue is the island San Servolo, home of the Venice International University, which is an association of several universities from all around the world. San Servolo is located between the city center of Venice and the island of Lido which is like a barrier to the open Adriatic Sea.

San Servolo

In the early 8th century San Servolo hosted a Benedictine Monastry that was converted to a Hospital around the mid-eighteenth century.

From Piazza San Marco a 10 minutes boat ride gets you to the island. The usual mean for public transportation in Venice is the "Vaporetto", a kind of waterbus. Since there are no regular streets in the city center of Venice, the everyday life is managed entirely by boats and on foot.

How to come to the workshop:

from Venice Central Station (Venezia Santa Lucia):

The Vaporetto stop at Central Station is called "Ferrovia" and you can take the waterbus lines 51, 41, and 1 for Lido. Line 1 is the only one going through the Canale Grande but most time consuming. Exit at "San Zaccaria" and change to the line 20 that is going to San Servolo.

from Venice International Airport:

There are several bus lines from the Airport to "Piazalle Roma" in Venice. This is about 5 minutes walk to central station but you can take the waterbus lines from there like in the description "from Venice Central Station".

You can also take a water bus directly from the Airport to "San Marco".

The third way is with a water taxi, but this is quite expensive.

by car:

There are longterm parking garages near Central Station and in Mestre, the industrial suburb of Venice, from where you can drive by bus or train to Central Station.
