Longitudinal analysis in adults - Antarctica
Motivation
The main objective is to determine whether adults when isolated over a long period of time begin to develop a common, shared accent
following the principles of communication density.
Zielgruppe
Adults who are isolated in a small group for several months: winterers in Antarctica.
Recruitment from the British Antarctic survey (heterogeneous accents)
Procedure
- Recordings of subjects:
- before they leave for Antarctica
- 2-3 time points when they are in Antarctica
- when they return from Antarctica
- Observe phonetic changes over the time points
- Apply the agent-based model to determine the degree of convergence between ABM predicted and observed changes
Language
- English with a mixture of accent backgrounds
